Tauro Wire & Metal Works

Tauro Wire & Metal Works is a family run community workshop in Tafara, a township outside Zimbabwe's capital Harare. Today Tauro Wire Works has grown to provide a living for half a dozen families in Tafara, as well as a number of street children who help find the re-cycled materials used to make the sculptures and who are also being taught the craft. Zimbabwe has been experiencing its worst economic crisis in recent years, with an unemployment rate of over 50%. Their line of creations include a range of African animals made from re-cycled telephone wire, steel elephants made from re-cycled oil cans that are stripped and twirled in a hand made lathe, and a collection of bags made from re-cycled bottle caps.
